After moving from America to France I have come to many realizations concerning my personal self and myself in relationships. I have found what I consider to be the most important things to do and feel in order to make me a better person for myself and for others (i.e., when dealing with relationships from friendships to my fiancé).

I've been blessed with many people in my life (most of all my mother) who have given me wisdom either through directly telling me their thoughts or just by witnessing them going through tough times. Now that I feel that I've found some "keys to life", I love sharing those with people I meet and people I care about.

It is one such friend that led me to this site. She and I just recently became friends (less than 6 months) and she was going through very abusive situations at school (yeah, more than one!). I was so blessed to be able to be there for her and to help her get through that difficult time. She is so kind and has such a beautiful soul that going through those times together has helped us both. Since this last semester ended and she has removed herself from the toxic situation, she has been making it a point to not only find herself, but more importantly, to love herself.

She sent me this site and asked me my thoughts. I was so filled with joy because it's honestly everything that I have been preaching for the past two years wrapped up in a well-written summary. It makes me so happy because these steps are just things that I have realized on my own, but to see that they are legitimate and that they work for other people makes me feel good about my decisions and thoughts.

So, without further adieu, I'd like to share them with all of you:

16 Simple Ways to Love Yourself Again

website: The Open Mind

It's been a while since I've posted something. My confidence as a dancer has been at an all time low for the past two years and I've had some major life changes that include moving across the country....again.

This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending my first ever bellydance workshop with none other than my all time bellydance idol, Sadie Marquardt. Not only is Sadie my personal bellydance idol (and I'm sure many other dancers feel the same way!), but she is one of the most talented and beautiful dancers of all time. I was fortunate enough to not only be able to attend her workshops, but to also be one of the first to test and be certified in Level One of her new program, Raqs Flow.

I had lost all of my confidence as a bellydancer, and almost all of my confidence as simply a dancer. With youtube and social media, I kept seeing these absolutely amazing women (and men!) performing and I would just beat myself up because I felt like I would never be good enough. These workshops and Sadie's Raqs Flow bellydance training program changed all of that. I took the "die hard" package - and man, did I get what I paid for a more! I think I'm going to sleep for days! Whooo!!!

Raqs Flow is more than just a series of workshops or lessons, it's a mentorship program, and that's what I have been craving. I am now engaged in a true teacher-student relationship where I give of myself, and my teacher gives herself. It's beautiful, and it's what dance training should be. Truly, I am blessed. الحمدلله

I can't wait for the next level! Look out, world!

Shout out to all of my new bellydance sisters! <3 you all! A special high five to all of the Raqs Flow ladies!

About

I created this blog ultimately to translate Arabic songs into English for non-Arabic speaking dancers. I have learned most of what I know about bellydancing and the bellydance community on my own and by making plenty of mistakes, so I wanted to also share what I have found through my bellydance journey (which, it always seems, has only just begun!).
